Extreme Value Analysis and Modelling of Wet Snow Accretion on Overhead Lines in Hungary

Wet snow events in Hungary can occasionally cause damage to overhead power lines and serious supply failures. Return period calculation of such high mass was determined upon a 50-year long data series available at 12 meteorological stations. masses were estimated with model cylindrical accretion around wire 3.1 cm diameter. Trends the return periods ice classes (according ISO 12494 standard) assessed from division dataset into two (1965–1990 1991–2016). Ice range R2 R5 (mass 0.7–6.1 kg m−1) identified. The wet risk decreased southern or central Hungary, while an increase found western part Hungary. R6–R8 (up 40 could occur mountain areas as indicated by numerical simulations case studies.
